Professor Dr. Philipp C. Lurz, MD, PhD received his medical degree and medical doctor from the University of Leipzig, Germany. From 2006 to June 2009, he was a research fellow at the University College of London and the Institute of Child Health and worked as a clinical fellow in the cardiology unit of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and The Heart Hospital in London. From 2009 to August 2023, he was Deputy Head of the Cardiology Department of the Leipzig Heart Center at the University of Leipzig, Germany. At present, he is the director of the Center for Cardiology Mainz at the University Medical Center Mainz, Germany. Working as an interventional cardiologist, he is the lead of the congenital structural interventional program, of the transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve intervention programs well as responsible for interventional heart failure and hypertension therapies. He is a board-certified specialist in grown up congenital heart disease (GUCH), interventional cardiology, heart failure and hypertension. His major area of research is related to structural heart disease, renal denervation and Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction. He has published > 140 papers and 10 book chapters and has given > 75 international talks as an invited speaker. He also received the Thomas J. Linnemeier ‘Spirit of Interventional Cardiology’ Young Investigator Award at TCT 2018.
