Neel Butala, MD, MBA is the Medical Director of Structural Heart Disease and Intervention for the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System, an interventional cardiologist at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center and the University of Colorado Hospital, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. His Dr. Butala’s research focuses on use of rigorous statistical and deep learning methods in large real-world datasets and clinical trial datasets to generate novel clinical insights. To date, his research has investigated the real-world clinical use, efficacy and safety of cardiovascular devices, therapies, and care pathways in the NCDR’s CathPCI Registry and STS/ACC TVT Registry; explored how cardiovascular clinical trial results from the US pivotal TAVR trials and DAPT Study extend to a diversity of real-world clinical settings and patients; and evaluated pragmatically-collected hospital and administrative data for use in randomized clinical trials. He currently serves as an Assistant Editor on the Editorial Board for Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions. Dr. Butala holds an AB magna cum laude in Economics with High Honors from Harvard College, an MD cum laude from Yale School of Medicine, and an MBA from Yale School of Management, and he completed his Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Structural Heart Disease training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
