Daniel Addison

Director
Ohio State University Cardio-Oncology Program
Daniel Addison, MD is a multi- R01-funded physician-scientist, tenured associate professor, clinical translational researcher, and practicing cardiologist with unique expertise in cardiac imaging and cardio-oncology. He joined Ohio State University (OSU) following advanced training at the Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard, where he focused on imaging and cardio-oncology. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles in journals such as Circulation, JACC, JAMA: Oncology, Blood, and other high-impact journals; and serves as PI or MPI for multiple grants and R01s; and holds the James Hay-Ruth Jansson Wilson endowed professorship in medicine. Over the past five years, Dr. Addison has directed OSU’s Cardio-Oncology Program, with focus on building impactful multidisciplinary collaborations. During this time, he has successfully led the rapid academic and clinical expansion this program to involve nearly a dozen faculty, while greatly enhancing the national and international reputation of this program. He has also co-led OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Survivorship working group program, inclusive of nearly 30 faculty over the last three years. He worked closely with cardiologists and hematologists/ oncologists locally, nationally, and internationally. He has also built several collaborations with industry and international societies in cardio-oncology and cancer survivorship. Notably, he has also leveraged this growth as vehicle to support the academic productivity of trainees interested in both cardiovascular and/or oncologic specialties. He formalized a curriculum in cardio-oncology as exampled by a first-of-kind annual CME program, attended by nearly 300 international registrants; and obtained support for a hybrid cardio-oncology fellowship at OSU (one of the first of its kind). Dr. Addison has also served in multiple leadership roles within the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC), Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging (SCMR), and other professional societies, and has chaired or led multiple societal statements. Finally, he has tried to ensure opportunities for diversity in national organizations that he has been part of or led. For example, he was selected to join the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH’s) Basic Biology of Blood, Heart, and Vasculature (BBVH) study section as standing member; and he was also named chair of the AHA’s cardiovascular imaging (CVRI) committee. This is also reflected in Dr. Addison’s commitment to mentorship, as this is reflected in the trainees and faculty collaborators he has mentored. He has ensured a diverse group of mentees, including several women and underrepresented minorities who received DOD, AHA, and ASCO research awards.
