Bashir Alaour
Consultant Cardiologist, Structural Heart Valve Intervention Lead
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK
Dr Alaour was awarded the prestigious British Cardiac Intervention Society International Fellowship to train in Structural Intervention at Bern University Hospital, Switzerland, which hosts one of the leading Structural Intervention centres in Europe.
After the completion of this fellowship, he returned to the UK to establish and lead the Structural Heart Valve Intervention Programme at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with the University Hospital Southampton and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals (London).
Dr Alaour has extensive experience in basic science and clinical cardiology research. He was awarded a PhD degree in Cardiology from King's College London after completing a research programme funded by the British Heart Foundation, focusing on the biological variation, phosphorylation and fragmentation of Cardiac Myosin-Binding Protein C for the diagnosis of acute and chronic myocardial injury. During his research, he pioneered a diagnostic method for the detection and quantification of intact Cardiac Myosin-Binding Protein C, with potential applications in the differentiation between different types of myocardial injury—an ongoing project he continues to lead.
His main clinical research area is the long-term outcomes of TAVI, in collaboration with leading British and Swiss centres in the field.
